Original App: Saudade application
Game Summary: Set in the Kingdom Hearts universe, but far, far, far away from Kingdom Hearts canon a tiny cube world existed with a giant Lantern that helped keep the Darkness at bay. Sometimes Drifters from other worlds were pulled into the Darkness and found by people from the tiny world, Penrose, who brought them back. What Drifters had in common was a strength of heart that called out. Some were good, some were rather less so, all were severed from their homes. Powers were adjusted to more-or-less fit in with Kingdom Hearts style magic. E.g. shapeshifting characters could still do that despite it not being a Kingdom Hearts thing, however the illusionists had to struggle to meld magics into illusions because it doesn't quite fit.
How long was your character in Game: May-Dec 2014
History of Character in their Game:
Roy was brought in (his Strength of Heart moment) from the battle with Father in canon. During the choice all characters have to make (Shield, Sword, Wand) Roy chose to keep the Wand as his focus and discard the Sword, although in his case it was "keep the sound of fire, discard the sound of crashing swords"; because he spent his time on Penrose adjusting to the fact that he is now completely, absolutely, irrevocably, blind. A Healer there, Khemrys, informed him that there is nothing to heal. What the Truth did to him when forced through the Gate made "blind" his default state. Roy and the boy he was found with, Ventus of Kingdom Hearts canon, moved in together and Roy took on a half-brotherly, half-fatherly role helping Ven deal with what his canon did to him at his pull point. Roy did go on one off-world mission, wherein he and his partner for the mission tangled with vampires in the Dracula (book) world. During this mission Roy's seeing eye dog proved to be a Very Good Girl indeed by killing herself a vampire in the form of a bat. Roy created pretty good friendships with several people, however the game was so short lived that he didn't really get to do a heck of a lot.
How did they change from their canon personality wise (Please explain what caused it to happen?)
Roy is still pretty much the same as he was, although he acknowledges that he's got a bit of an ambition problem and is now working to keep that in check.
How did they change from their canon physically (Please explain what caused it to happen?): He's got a handful more scars (including ones in his hands from where Bradley pinned him with swords), most of which are the result of trying to learn how to cook while blind.
Powers: Canonically he has Alchemy, specializing in Flame Alchemy. That is, following the law of equivalent exchange, the ability to turn one thing into another thing. Including gas into fire, or a pig into a facsimile of a human corpse. Thanks to being forced through the Gate to the Truth Roy no longer needs a circle to perform Alchemy. From Saudade he has access to Kingdom Hearts style magic, however the only bit of it he ever actually used was Fire. He developed as fine a control over Fire magic as he had over Flame Alchemy and can still do stupid fire tricks like "set water on fire" and "burn one specific type of gas to make a certain colour".
Possessions:
• One seeing-eye dog (female, named Merlin).
• One battered, burned, but no longer bloody blue uniform.
• One black coat (also battered and burned).
• Several uniforms identical to the blue one in a deep green (because blind men colour match very badly) made for him by Khemrys.
• One black ring that, when twisted in a specific way, provides a coat like those of Organization XIII with attendant protection against Darkness.
• One cellphone-like machine that contains a contact list for people he can't contact, a translation program for a language nobody speaks, and a couple of useful applications like talk-to-text notepad and (most importantly) a scanning program that scans books in and translates them into audo books thanks to Barbara Gordon. This machine is bonded to him by blood and will not work for anyone else.
Please provide three samples from your previous game, at least one will have to be third person with context:
Sample One: Roy and Ventus are Found in the Darkness by Rainbow Dash, taken to Penrose, and bonded to their Elos.
Sample Two: Roy finds out that he is, and ever shall be, blind.
Sample Three: Roy and Lea (and Merlin) go on an off-world mission and encounter vampires.
Notes: It's been a long time since I've played in a game, and I'm pretty rusty.
Expansion by request of mods:
Roy's main friendships at Saudade were with Ventus and Khemrys. While he and Lea got along well there weren't very many threads between the two of them.
Ven
Ven and Roy were found together in the Darkness. Mostly because of Roy's new blindness he and Ven moved in together when they left the temporary housing that was given to all newly found Drifters. Their relationship was somewhere between familial and friendly, with them talking about a lot of the pain that they'd suffered from in their various canons; Roy told Ven all about the Ishval revolution, Ven told Roy about the x-blade and how he was supposed to be the dark fighter to help create it. They also had a lot of fun, teasing each other about their collective cooking skills (neither had any), discussing magic and science, and generally just being someone around whom the other could heal. In a lot of ways Roy thought of Ven a lot like he might have thought of Ed if Ed hadn't been a member of the military - several times Roy compared Ven and Ed in his mind with him always coming to the conclusion that Ven must have been a lot younger than Ed. Ven's actual age never came up, and obviously Roy couldn't tell.
Khemrys
Khemrys was someone that Roy stumbled over, very nearly literally, near the beginning of his stay on Penrose. She was unlike anyone that he'd ever really encountered before, being incredibly polite, quite, and terrified. Her own history had her chased for several years by someone literally sent to hunt her down and kill her before she found herself in the Darkness and thanks to those years of being hunted she was extremely afraid of all men. Including relatively helpless, newly blind men. Roy had to hold himself in check almost the entire time he was around her, because his natural inclination to flirt and tease would only scare Khemrys more. They started meeting for lunches on a regular basis and Roy tried to get Khemrys to seek out a therapist for her issues. Being around her forced Roy to grow up as far as interacting with women is concerned. He's still a horrible flirt, but he's more likely to check and make sure he's not making someone uncomfortable with it.
Lea
Lea's voice actor and Maes Hughes' voice actor are the same person. Because of that it was decided OOC by myself and Lea's player that Roy was going to mistake Lea's voice for Hughes'. This is notable because that's where Roy and Lea started to interact. Lea bumped into Roy and the blind man thought, for just a moment, that his dead best friend was there. Aside from the mission to Dracula's world their only other major interaction was via a shared nightmare that Roy had which started with memories of losing his sight, went through the fight with Envy, and wandered around in Ishval for a while. While they didn't interact much this was a significant set of interactions because Lea's voice made Roy actually start dealing with the emotional upheaval of Hughes' death.
The Mission to Dracula's World
Part of how Penrose kept worlds safe from the Darkness was by finding a magical lantern on them and lighting it. Not unlike the canon Kingdom Hearts "locking the world" performed by Keyblade Masters. This was dealt with on an in character level by having a post up with the world that they were going to, several threads for different areas of the world, and characters hunting for the lantern. Which group would find the lantern was determined by RNG. Roy, his dog, and Lea were not the ones who were to find the lantern. Lea and Roy, when searching, found the house that Dracula owned in the book, and entered it. While in there they first had a discussion about the science of fire (Roy talked. Lea nodded a lot because it went over his head.) before being confronted by three vampires. Working together the two men (and one Good Girl) were able to kill the vampires without actually burning the house down. That was plan "B". They didn't actually get to search the house after the vampires were killed, primarily because they were worried that they would find more vampires instead. Roy used clock faces ("your two o'clock") to send fire at the very flammable enemies, and Merlin bit a bat to death. Redeath.
Overall
Being pulled to Penrose left Roy in a state of unbridled terror (for his people) and healing. He was able to start healing from the emotional damage done to him by canon that started with the Ishval war and continued apace to his fight with Envy. He was extremely resentful of whatever power(s) pulled him into the Darkness, and I had plans to have him be researching any and every way to get home that he could find because his country needed him. Or everyone was dead, in which case he'd have seen how much damage a blind Flame Alchemist with nothing to lose could do in revenge. No Hawkeye, no Hughes, no reason not to destroy everything if he could take Father down that way. He is still obsessive, after all.
